Being a Mommy as a career

Thursday, January 27, 2011

Please do not mistake this post as a rant vs. mothers who have office jobs, or as a rant vs. husbands who earn a living. It's not. This is just my realization on Mommyhood.

This is my current Facebook status:

-Do I work?
Yes. I work 24 hours a day.

-Why?
Because I'm a MOM. I am a cook, a cleaner, a parent, a teacher, a referee, a nanny, a nurse, a handyman, a maid, a security officer, a photographer, a counselor, a comforter, etc. I don't get holidays, sick pay or any days off. I work through the DAY and NIGHT. I am on call at ALL hours. Tell me your job is harder than mine. Post if you're proud being a MOM.
A couple of months ago, I also read something about If being a Mommy was a paid job we'd earn one of the, if not the, highest salaries.

I definitely agree to them both. Being a full-time Mommy is not an easy task. When I was younger and had no family of my own, I took for granted everything my mother did. I took for granted her cooking, her cleaning, how she does the laundry, her budgeting skills, everything.

Now that I have a family of my own, I realize it's such a difficult job, and you always do them simultaneously! Now I understand the saying that their "Children are the center of the universe" or that "Family comes first".

I'm not complaining though. I love seeing my little Missy so happy. I love playing with her, reading to/with her, watching cartoons with her. I also love it when her Daddy comes home and says that he loves the smell of what I've cooked and is all excited for dinner. I love it when he tells me about his day and asks me what I think about this and that. I love my life.

I do know though that I still have a lot to learn, especially when it comes to cleaning. Around here we always have helpers for cleaning but now that I do it all alone, I find it so hard to clean the house and keep everything organized. I know I'll learn. I know it'll take time, but I will.

This post is dedicated to all mothers, or husbands who stay at home and live the mother role. From the bottom of my heart, I am so proud of you and know that you are appreciated.

Fun day at Fun Ranch!

Friday, December 17, 2010

If you haven't read my previous post, The Bad, The Love and The Fun, this post will detail our super fun day at Fun Ranch.

Last Saturday, December 11th, we were invited to attend the ATD and Mommy Bloggers Event at Fun Ranch. We actually arrived late and missed the program but the event was for the children of The Good Foundation. The hosts were very gracious to provide a scrumptious buffet for the children as well as for the Mommy and DAddy bloggers and their child/ren. Aside from food, we were also given an Unlimited or Ride-all-you-can pass for the day to enjoy with our family and the children of the orphanage. What's best is we were also handed loot bags with assorted goodies, yum yum!

We had so much fun during this event that as early as now, we're considering Fun Ranch to be the venue of my little Girl's birthday party in September, if God-willing. You can read the quote below why we're considering it as a birthday venue then check out our photos to see how much fun we had!

FUN RANCH DELIVERS THE BEST PARTY EXPERIENCE

A barnyard filled with people happily singing the birthday song. A huge inflatable playground filled with children jumping up and down. A birthday celebrant wearing sports jacket racing with his best pals on a mini-go-kart track. Kids playing and riding all they want. These are some of the many things children enjoy in a Fun Ranch party.

Fun Ranch is all about having fun in a kid-friendly environment. It has function rooms that meet the needs of every creative parent looking for a unique and special party for their children from a small group of 20 to a grand celebration with 520 guests. The Big Red Barn is a barnyard in the middle of the complex. The Blue Whale Grill, on the other hand, has an aquatic theme with a working lighthouse, Leaps and Bounds inflatable playground which can be exclusively used for a minimal amount; floating huts, a pond where kids can feed the fishes and Bumper Boats for a more stimulating party experience.

Fathers and sons will surely have a blast partying at Go! Speed Racing complemented with racer amenities such as personalized invitations, Champion banner and exclusive use of the mini-go-kart track for all the guests. The gutterless Duckpin bowling, Mini-Golf and Tea Cup Ride at Family Fun Zone guarantee intimate and exciting get togethers full of bonding time for both kids and kids at heart. Similarly, parties at our indoor playgrounds set a venue for learning through play with its huge signature slides and other cool activities for children.

Big or small, Fun Ranch caters to anything you want to celebrate. Aside from birthdays, corporate parties, graduation and reunions have found their way to Fun Ranch. So, for a hassle free party, come to Fun Ranch because kids rule here!

Fun Ranch is open everyday. For inquiries you may call 396-5290 or 706-3019. Visit our website at www.funranch.com.ph or for more information about this topic, please contact Ana May P. del Rosario by calling 706-3029, or e-mail Ana May del Rosario at arose41506@yahoo.com

Little Missy's first time to see a Ferris Wheel

First time to ride a Ferris Wheel and she wasn't scared of heights!

View of the Carousel from the top of the Ferris Wheel

Queueing

We read about stars while waiting for our turn on the Carousel. The people were amazed she could read on her own :)

Enjoying the ride

We rode the purple airplane (Red Baron)

Little Missy's first Bumper Cars experience. She wanted to drive and was looking for the horn.

My future golfer? Like mommy like baby?

Train ride with Daddy. Chuggachugga Choo Choo!

Lovin' the ride

She wanted to ride this too but I know she can't take it. Maybe next year.

She absolutely loved the hanging bridge. Good sense of balance.

Let me know when you're visiting Fun Ranch... maybe we'll be there too :) Happy weekend!

The Bad, The Love, and The Fun

This post is actually about our adventures last Saturday. I forgot to share all about it because I've been fighting with an adware virus (tracker) in my computer for days. Anywho, it's gone now so I feel safe opening up my files again.

The Bad -
Let's start with Friday night. Daddy usually comes home late every Friday because he has to participate in a global call. Friday nights in the PH seems to be the perfect time for all the other countries to join in. Aside from coming home late, hubby called to say he felt the car was overheating. He had to stop at all the gas stations along the way to have the radiator cooled down. He knew something else was wrong because he wasn't actually losing water, the engine just kept heating up.

So he got home around 1am and we both decided that he'll take the car to the car shop early next morning. Why early next morning? Because I was invited to attend my a blogger event at Fun Ranch in Tiendesitas.

Next day came and took the car to the shop. We estimated that maybe it'll take around 3 hours to fix, giving us enough time to attend the event, or maybe even a little bit late. Imagine my surprise when hubby said it'll take 2 weeks to fix the car. There wasn't wrong with the radiator or belts, it was the engine itself.

The Love -
Powerless (and carless), I just told hubby that I'd just cancel. I think he could hear from my voice that it was important to me. He said he was really, really sorry but I knew it wasn't his fault. Our car, Queenie, is 18 years old. She had a right to break down once in awhile.

After 10 minutes, hubby said we're still going. He'll take care of everything to make sure I get to attend the event, even though we're late. After preparing Little Missy, hubby arrived in a taxi. He showered, got our things and made a phone call. Another 10 minutes and another taxi came. He said no matter what, we're going.

The taxi ride wasn't fun. It was Little Missy's first time in a public transport and sad to say she vomited due to byahilo or motion sickness. Throughout the trip I was looking at her to see how she is so she really didn't make a mess. I was prepared for it. We had to stop when she vomited though because she was very fussy. It was the first time I saw her that helpless. When it was all over, she just leaned on me and slowly fell asleep.

We managed to arrive at Fun Ranch but were super duper late. Mommy Lace and the other mommy bloggers weren't even there anymore but Mommy Lace made sure I had my loots, PR kit and ticket when we got there. I told her not to anymore because I was really embarrassed that we arrived so late but I promised her, and my little Missy that we will go no matter what.

I love Daddy for this, for all his effort to make everything materialize. He knew how it was important for me and he made it possible.

More pics, stories and info on our day at Fun Ranch in my next post or click HERE.

The Fun -

As soon as we got to Fun Ranch, we looked for Tita Anna. When she handed us our passes, nothing can stop Little Missy from doing everything and everything. We rode the rides, had fun at the Fun Family Zone and played around. My little girl especially loved that area in the middle with letters that had animal information on them. She read them again and again.

After Fun Ranch, we had to attend a birthday cum Christmas Party. It was Ate Yosha's 3rd birthday party and as it was a gathering of moms who used to be members of the Baby Central site, it was also our EB/Christmas Party.

We arrived late too but thankfully, Tita Wheng waited for us before she started raffling off some prizes and the exchange of gifts.

What a day. With the bad, the love, and the fun, I couldn't ask for more.

When Moms and Babies Meet - Part 2

Tuesday, October 19, 2010

If you haven't read Part 1 yet and would like to see our umm.. old pictures and my story, read it here - When Moms and Babies Meet Part 1.

After a year and 8 months, the BC Moms and Dads finally met again last October 9th. This time it was organized as a kiddie party by Chie. It was a good idea to have it at McDonalds so that our event would be almost hassle-free. An emcee, games and props, a mascot appearance and the venue will already be provided for... and clean-up afterwards.

It started out as just an EB but since Wheng will be celebrating her birthday this month, she offered to pay for the venue fee as her blow-out. In turn, we bought her a cake :) From what money we have collected, Chie also bought cupcakes for the kids and boxes of brownies as souvenirs for each family who attended. Other moms who came also gave some treats for the kids.

My big heartfelt THANK YOU to

  • Tita Chie for organizing this shindig ;)
  • Tita Wheng for being the venue sponsor
  • Tita Levie and family for flying in from Davao and for my little missy's newest fave, her fluffy red bag (red, pink or fuschia bags for girls and Ben 10 trucks for boys)
  • Tita Geejay for the sweet treats
  • Milkita for the yummmmmmmmy candies
  • Tita Nicquee for the warm welcome ("Ayan! dumating din!" lol)
  • AND to all the Mommies, Daddies and not-so babies who party-ed with us!

From L-R (top): Tita Charvs and Carlos Nuel, Me and Little Missy, Tita Inah and Keisha, Tita Chie and Sasha, Tita Wheng and Yosha, Tita Levie and Pat, Tita Gigi and Simon, Tita Janrue and Grant (and Gabe, not in picture), and Tita Ria and Ree-Yhan

From L-R (bottom): Tita Mira and Charm, Tita Geejay and Gianna, Tita Nicquee and Ayex (and Maxyn, not in picture), and Tita Jackie and Josh Raven.

Thank you also to Tito Jon, Tita Michelle, Justin and little baby, as well as Tita Flor, Tito Dex and Zoe who made it but after the photo op. Not in the picture are some of the Daddies who were patiently waiting or were taking the photos.

Maraming, maraming salamat po. Until next time!

When Moms and Babies Meet - Part 1

Friday, October 15, 2010

A couple of months after my daughter was born in 2008, I got hooked on a lot of internet stuff. Mainly because I was a SAHM and had a lot of spare time in between feedings but specifically because of monthly online contests.

It was around December 2008 when I joined Baby Central (BC), which was then also a newly launched site. They started monthly themed contests where the child with the most number of votes would win. Prizes would range from free Photo shoots to gift packs and gift certificates. The top 10 highest children also won consolation prizes/gift packs.

It was on this site that I met a lot of moms who had similar interests (contests). I am glad to have met the first few active moms and dad (yep, I can only recall one active Daddy) who were more in it just for the fun of it.

On February 15th of 2009, we had our mini EB (eyeball) at Max's in Shangri-la Mall. We were so excited since that was the first time we'd see each other face to face. Most of us were chatting online for more than 10 hours a day , 7 days a week and we'd only know each other by handle/username or those little thumbnail pictures/avatars. When we all met, we knew, this was the beginning of the BC Moms and Dads friendship.

Okay, just for now humor me. These were the pictures taken then. If there was a then, for sure there'd be a now, right? That is coming up tomorrow. We had another EB and wouldn't it be exciting to see how some of these children have grown?? But for now, let's reminisce...

L-R: Chrisel and Aria (14 months), Glen and Jazz (9 months), Chi and Sasha (11 months), Me and my little Missy (5 months), Wheng and Yosha (14 months), Gie and Simon (10 months), Mitch and Masheng (23 months), and Nicquee and Ayex (25 months)

Please watch out for tomorrow's post :) Have a great weekend!
