All hyped up

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

June 30th. Today is the inauguration of President-elect Noynoy Aquino. It's a special holiday. People are anxious to watch the events as there are lots of celebrities in his cabinet as well as the appearance of all his celebrity endorsers (thanks to sister Kris).

Are you as hyped up about this as with the rest of the Filipino nation? I'm not. I am not, and never have been a Noynoy fan. I loved his mother and father but I believe, that's all it was. He won by the merits of his parents. He has yet to prove himself. But since he won, I will support him as the country's new president. I very much want to know what he can do in his 100 days (if not to debunk everything ex-President Arroyo did). Don't take me wrong, I'm not an Arroyo fan either, but why dwell on her mistakes instead of trying to build up the country now, kwim??

Good luck Philippines. May you live well for the next 6 years for my daughter's sake.

Essays? Not a problem.

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

My family came over and stayed with us for the day. My brother asked me to print for him his first project for the school year. He said he didn't want to cram them, like before, until the deadliest deadline.

When I was in school, I hated essays. I always wished somebody could write them for me (sssh!). Guess what? Nowadays, there is a website where you can buy essays. What's great about the site is that the essays are done by professional writers. Also, the fees are very reasonable because it's charged by the amount of time you need the essay delivered and by level of education. A junior high school student who needs an essay in 2 weeks definitely gets a lower rate than an essay to be delivered at the same time for a Doctorate (Ph. D) student.

I wish I've stumbled into them 15 years back. It surely could have helped me improve my grades, especially since I was a certified crammer back then.

Friday Bloghops June 25th

Friday, June 25, 2010

It's Friday once again, welcome followers! I would love to know more about you too so please do leave a comment when you follow in case your profile doesn't contain your blog link.

About me:

  • I'm currently a a stay-at-home mom but I'm also trying to find work that I can do from home
  • I have one daughter who will be turning 2 in September
  • I also started 3 other blogs. My Tummy Calls is all about food, My Game of Chance is about my journey in meeting up with Lady Luck. It's all about the giveaways I join and anything else involving luck and chance. My newest blog is a SAHMmy to a WAHMmy which is all about my transitioning or experiences in looking for work-based jobs.
  • I have done some articles too for a couple of clients although I don't consider it work per se since those didn't really provide a steady flow of income. I do love doing it though so I'm hoping to write more of those, as well as do sponsored posts and reviews.
  • I am currently looking for sponsors for giveaways. I am hoping to hold one to celebrate my little tot's birthday. If you are interested to sponsor, please do get in touch with me through mytotsexactly[at]yahoo[dot]com. Any product, item, or even amount will be greatly appreciated.
  • Lastly, I just love Fridays! It's just one more night of sleep then ultimate family bonding time. We don't really go out and celebrate often, most of the time we spend it home or at my family's, but we make it a point to always make it special.
Thank you so much for reading and getting to know me. As stated above, I would love to get to know more about you too.

Happy, happy friday and my family wishes that your family have a great weekend ahead.

In favor of Military school

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

Are you in favor of enrolling your child or a loved on in a military school?

My youngest brother is in his last year of high school and told us that he's interested in enrolling in a military school for college. These are his reasons:

Why be a PMA Cadet?
  • The rare privilege to serve the Country
  • A well rounded education: Academics, Leadership, Teamwork, and Physical Fitness for FREE!!!
  • Receive salary and allowances while studying
  • Guaranteed job after graduation
  • Progressive career as an officer in the ARMY, NAVY or AIRFORCE

Hmmm this really got me thinking. My husband, who had always dreamed to wear an Alpha White uniform is of course, in favor. I, as a sister and woman (is) was against it. It's because I've heard rumors that hazing is involved during the first year and that there have been a few casualties. My brother is asthmatic, but lately he hasn't had an attack. He has been very active with basketball lately so I'm guessing his body has somehow adjusted to his lifestyle.

Still, after hearing the boys the boys talk about why they're in favor, I'm now thinking twice about my decision to not let him. If the only reason I'm against it is because I'm scared of the hazing part, then maybe I can convince my mother to have him take some self defense class. I know they're not allowed to "fight back" during initiation but if worse comes to worst, then at least he'd be equipped to defend himself. Also, since taking a class would also educate him about which parts of the body should or should not take a hit, he can assess the damage to his own body when the time comes.

You see, it's a great idea really, except for the hazing part. And since he can choose which branch of the military to serve, at least I'm at peace with myself knowing that he won't be thrown to Basilan or somewhere else where there are active Abu Sayyafs as soon as he graduates. I can always have him enlist with the Navy since he loves the water lol.

But at this point in time, I'm still not 100% convinced. I may be at 70% but I'm thinking that's good enough. After all, the main reason for him to do this is to help our mother out. He doesn't want her to burden all the expenses, plus he wants to be able to give back. With an allowance and salary while studying, he can hardly resist.

So... now are you in favor too?

Digitized IDs and you

Sunday, June 20, 2010

How long have you had your government-issued digitized ID/s? Does the picture still look like you? Or maybe human at all?

A couple of years back, a lot of institutions required at least 2 government-issued digitized IDs when applying for loans and other services. That became a problem for me when I was applying for my maternity benefit from SSS (Social Security System) since I only had a digitized Driver's License. So just to comply, even though I looked horrible during the last month of my pregnancy, I applied (yes, that included waiting in long queues) for an SSS digitized ID. Imagine my big face (especially the nose) plastered on the screen for everyone to see. It's been two years now and I'm still haunted by that picture. Good thing my pregnancy was the best thing so far that happened in my life that I don't curse that picture to death.

It's an entirely different matter for my husband though. My husband mainly uses his Driver's License and company ID as proof of identification when applying or redeeming things. Although both are valid IDs, the problem is that you can barely identify him through the picture. His Driver's License is the worst of the two because the picture is actually now glued to the plastic case. If he even tries to remove the card itself, to say photocopy, he loses his face.

A Driver's License is something you bring with you everywhere you go, especially if you drive your own vehicle. For most people, specifically men, it's tucked away in their wallets. These IDs should be designed for natural wear and tear. If you sit on your bum long enough, the jeans get sweaty so sometimes your wallet becomes "steamy". Aside from this, if you're like my hubby who absolutely loves to run through the rain to get the car without an umbrella, it's another cause for his jeans pockets/wallet to get a bit wet.

It was the frequent wet/dry, hot and steamy situations that put his bum to the test. This is probably the the cause why his picture stuck to the plastic case. I know, it's funny to think about it really, but I assure you it's not when you can't redeem or when you're asked to produce more IDs to prove that the name and the person on the picture are one and the same.

My wish is that, government companies invest on a good, high quality ID printer and card. If these are the cards that are required for almost everything then they should be able to endure the natural wear and tear that comes with using/bringing it everyday.

Good thing Driver's Licenses are renewed every couple of years. Imagine if it was good for all eternity and people can't even recognize you as a human being!
