Chic In Black Monday 9 - Men in Black Suits

Monday, June 27, 2011

Don't you just love attending weddings or some formal affair? I for one love to attend (though I must admit I will never be a fashionable attendee) because I love seeing men in suits.

Why do I love to see men and not women? Women have a lot of choices for their attire, there are gowns, cocktail dresses, formal suits/pants, etc., while men only have suits or barongs. Women can accessorize (sometimes even over-accessorize) but men can only use cuff links to enhance the suit, or pair it with a sleek tie and that teeny piece of handkerchief or cloth sticking out of the breast pocket. I really believe the challenge really is in men's clothing, in trying to find the right fit, and how to effectively carry them and bring your own personality.

Maxyn's 1st birthday at Shakey's and a meeting of friends

Thursday, June 16, 2011

June 11th was like a field trip for us. We were invited to attend Maxyn's 1st birthday party at Quezon City, so we decided to leave a bit early to make sure we make it to at most an hour after the party started (yes, we were anticipating a bit of traffic, after all we're coming from the other side of the metro).

Sad to say, we didn't make it to the first hour of the party. If memory serves me right, we got there about 30 minutes or an hour before the party was scheduled to end! I swear, travelling from the south to Quezon City is NOT an easy task. We even had our online maps handy to help us navigate but traffic was horrible... EVERYWHERE.

Good thing we still enjoyed our travel just because it was still a family affair. I guess that's our motto, that all is well as long as we're doing it as a family. The heavy traffic became a bonding moment for us, we picked up words from license plates, read out numbers and addresses, watched out for planes and birds, and a lot of other spontaneous activities. Having a little toddler definitely changed a lot. Now every trip is just like a field trip.

When hubby and I used to get stuck in traffic when we were in college, we'd both be almost mad as hell because we'd both be hungry and just wanted to go home, but this time, we treasure being stuck in traffic (as long as we have food and water) because we get to do things with the little Missy.

Anyway, here are some pictures from the party (I guess not much since it was almost the end when we got there), and pics of the lovely blogger moms from PMC - Nicquee (Maxyn's mom) Joy, Pehpot and Fedhz (check out their blogs, links below the pic) and old-time friends from our BC family - Nicquee, Glenda and Wheng.

Oh and although there were some altercations with Shakey's and the celebrant's parents, I liked that they had a kiddie area for the kids to play at. Though I'd love to say I would like to come back and visit them again, I don't think we would, unless it were on the way to somewhere we needed to go to.

Check out some of the pics:

Can kids do their own shopping?

Wednesday, June 15, 2011

Do your kids complain all the time when you take them to shop for clothes? Here is a solution; why not let them shop online? All they have to do is find the online retailers that they like, view their products and add them to the shopping cart. You can then go to cart, view selections, approve, and then place the order. Now, if you start at MyCoupons.com, you can grab a coupon code to make this purchase.

MyCoupons has all the top retailers like American Eagle, Aeropostale, Buckle and tons more. So you can use coupons online without your kids being embarrassed. Trust me, it happened to me already. Doesn’t matter what we do sometimes. Plus, if you are on their site, you can buy a discounted gift card for purchases in store and online. And speaking of Aeropostale, they have a $50 gift card for $44. Instant savings! How Cool!

No more toothache

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

A couple of months back hubby decided to have one of his molars removed because it was getting too uncomfortable. At around that time, I too was having some pain with my tooth but as always, I decided to just have it filled because of my fear of pain. Hubby kept on insisting for me to just have it extracted but I had an excuse handy. I told him and the dentist that we couldn't BOTH have teeth extracted because no one would be able to carry little Missy.

Three weeks ago (about 2 months since then), my tooth started to hurt again but this time the pain was so intense that I took at most 2 pain killers per day for 3 days. I don't normally take meds now so that was a big deal for me. Hubby saw this opportunity to convince me to have the tooth extracted as soon as the swelling goes away.

I don't know why I'm afraid of the dentist again. When I was pregnant and had some toothache, my OB-GYNE told me to have the teeth extracted instead of filled because of the chemicals. Because I would do anything for my little girl (in my tummy then), I had 3 teeth pulled all at the same time and to this day, I honestly can't remember the pain I went through. It all seemed like a breeze that I felt I could handle another tooth extraction.

Today, Tuesday at 5pm, we went to the dentist. I reminded him about my tolerance for pain so this was what happened.

  • 5:15 - 5:16 Application of topical anesthesia
  • 5:16 - 5:18 Anesthesia through injection (painless)
  • 5:18 - 5:19 Dentist tried to move the tooth away from the other teeth by prying it with a flat-tipped instrument.
  • 5:19 - 5:20 Dentist gripped the tooth with the plier-thing and explained while explaining how the pain would feel, that it would be from the pressure of pulling and not the actual pain. Tooth was extracted and it was really painless.
Honest. I felt him grip the tooth and he said it was the tightest he could grip it. Then he said he was just slowly trying to twist it a bit to loosen it up, I felt him pull and ta-da, the tooth was out.

I couldn't help but tell him that he was simply the best as soon as I saw something red and white on the pliers. He then showed me the tooth to let me know that he got all the roots and after a few minutes (paying and getting my prescription for antibiotics) we were off to the nearest store to buy me some ice cream.

At around 7pm though I started to feel the pain so I slept it off after I drank the pain reliever. I felt crying because of the pain but felt relieved at the same time that this would probably be the last tooth-related pain I would feel for a long time (I hope). And yes, I was able to eat soft pizza for dinner, yum yum!

Thank you so much Dr. Paulino!

Chic In Black Monday 8 - Po and Baby Po

Monday, June 13, 2011

Last May 27 we watched Kung Fu Panda 2. It was little Missy's 3nd time to watch a movie in a cinema and I'm glad everything went well.

One trick I try to do when we watch a movie with her is to buy her some toys, usually free ones from fast food happy/kiddie meals. By having a replica of the character in her hand, she becomes more absorbed and involved in the movie. So the day of the show, we brought along Po and Baby Po and she had both in her hands the whole time during the movie and was even mimicking their moves and lines.

We had so much fun watching it and we're (Daddy, Mommy and Little Missy) looking forward to out next movie. I think the next one on our list is Puss in Boots :)

Hope you all have a great week ahead. Happy Monday!
